چکیده

The solid-state structures, thermal properties, and enzymatic degradability of melt-crystallized films of random copolymers of (R)-3-hydroxybutyric acid (3HB) with different hydroxyalkanoic acids were investigated. The crystallinity, lamellar thickness, and spherulite growth rate of copolymers decreased with an increase in the carbon numbers of second monomer units for copolymers with an identical comonomer composition. The enzymatic degradation rate of random copolyesters decreased with increases both in the crystallinity and in the lamellar thickness. As the results, the rate of enzymatic erosion could be accelerated by the incorporation of second monomer units with more large steric bulkiness.

Hydrolytic and enzymatic degradation of liquid-crystalline aromatic/aliphatic copolyesters.

Aromatic/aliphatic copolyesters containing hydrophilic moieties in the main chain or side chain were synthesized by bulk polycondensation of aromatic monomers without or with solubilizing substituents and aliphatic monomers. Hydrolytic and enzymatic degradation studies were carried out in vitro at 37 degrees C in pH 7.4 phosphate buffer and in Tris-HCl buffer containing proteinase K. The result...

Synthesis and Characterization of certain Biodegradable Thermotropic Liquid Crystalline Random Copolyesters

A series of high molecular weight copolyesters were prepared from isophthalic acid, 1,4butane diol and sebacic acid/ adipic acid through a two step process of melt polycondensation using titanium tetra butoxide as catalyst. The synthesised random copolyesters were characterised by means of IR, 1H NMR, 13C NMR, gel permeation chromatography (GPC), viscosity measurements, differential scanning ca...

Copolyesters made from 1,4-butanediol, sebacic acid, and D-glucose by melt and enzymatic polycondensation.

Biotechnologically accessible 1,4-butanediol and vegetal oil-based diethyl sebacate were copolymerized with bicyclic acetalized D-glucose derivatives (Glux) by polycondensation both in the melt at high temperature and in solution at mild temperature mediated by polymer-supported Candida antarctica lipase B (CALB). Two series of random copolyesters (PB(x)Glux(y)Seb and PBSeb(x)Glux(y)) were prep...

Stilbene-containing Thermotropic Liquid Crystalline Polyesters for Aerospace Applications

Materials used in space travel must maintain thermal and dimensional stability in extreme conditions, while remaining melt processable for ease of industrial production. The rigid chemical structure of stilbene often correlates to polymers exhibiting a liquid crystalline morphology and the olefinic bond undergoes a [2 + 2] cycloaddition in the presence of UV light. Based on the combined benefit...

Effect of Hydroxyl Monomers on the Enzymatic Degradation of Poly(ethylene succinate), Poly(butylene succinate), and Poly(hexylene succinate)

Poly(ethylene succinate) (PES), poly(butylene succinate) (PBS), and poly(hexylene succinate) (PHS), were synthesized using succinic acid and different dihydric alcohols as materials. Enzymatic degradability by cutinase of the three kinds of polyesters was studied, as well as their solid-state properties. The biodegradation behavior relied heavily on the distance between ester groups, crystallin...
